Fur and Feather Animal Assistance
Helping One Animal at a Time
January, 2011
Fur and Feather Animal Assistance is located in a very rural county in western New Mexico. This county, the largest in the state, has no animal control, so unwanted pets are often abandoned to fend for themselves in the wild. In the fall of 2003 we took it upon ourselves to do something to help these homeless pets. Animals are housed at our own homes, kennels, and foster homes. Early in the spring of 2006 we became incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
We concentrate on rescuing lost and abandoned animals and helping out when people die and leave their pets behind. We spay/neuter every dog and cat that passes through our hands. As of January 2011, we have been able to spay, neuter, and place over 1,200 pets.
Since every situation is unique we try to work with each individual to find a good match. Our return policy assures the new owners and us that a ll is a good fit. Although our primary goal is finding good homes for our animals we need funding to keep things going as we grow. Fencing for more dog pastures, shelter for the many cats, and a spay/neuter fund are some of our big needs right now.
We at Fur & Feather want to thank the many good residents of Catron and surrounding counties for their generous donations, volunteer help, and for providing homes to these deserving dogs and cats. With your help, we look forward to the rewards of helping animals, one at a time, this coming year.
**Please note that the Fur & Feather Farm is available by appointment only, please call or email to make an appointment to meet the animals at the farm.
